Lab Presentations

Seven ensemble companies will explore the essential questions, process and experiments that are at the heart of their work and will include performance, demonstration and conversation.

Training Ensemble Performers

Panelists: Robert Leonard, moderator; Ellen Lauren, Joan Schirle, Stephen Buescher and Juanita Rockwell.
Question: What are the essential values and craft that are necessary to training to work in an ensemble practice?

Art, Activism and Ensemble

Panelists: Meena Natarajan, moderator; R.G. Davis; Rhodessa Jones; Jim Nieson and Steve Ginsberg
Question: How does the stated social activism at the center of many ensembles work to inform the creation of the art and the life of the ensemble in the context of their community?

Passing the Torch: The Future of Ensemble Theatre

Panelists: Theresa Holden, moderator; John O' Neal, Carleton Turner, Steven Sapp and Aaron Davidman
Question: How is the practice of ensemble work passed on to a new generation? Is the act of passing the torch within a given ensemble even possible?

Books on Ensemble: 3 Recent and Those Yet To Be

Panelists: Dudley Cocke, moderator; Linda Burnham, Jan Cohen-Cruz and Ferdinand Lewis
Three recent publications by the panelists are the occasion for a dialogue about imagining the role of scholarship and publishing in developing the field of ensembles.

Strategic Planning Workshop

What is different about strategic planning for ensembles than strategic planning for any other theatre?
How do we apply this planning strategy to planning the future of the NET?

Don't miss the opportunity to work with members of different NET ensembles in a workshop format.

OTHER EVENTS

Opening Night Reception - This official kick-off party will be held immediately after Dell'Arte's performance of "The Golden State."
Opening Introductions - Welcomes, introductions and keynotes by Joan Channick, deputy director of Theater Communications Group; Terry Greiss, artistic director, Irondale Ensemble, and NET board president; and Roberta Uno, program officer at Ford Foundation.

The NET Festival Cabaret - An explosion of late-night madness featuring festival performers, live music and special guests in a crazy cavalcade of mayhem and breathtaking skills.

Closing Dinner - When the final performances have ended, and the panels and labs have come to an end, what better way to wrap things up than with a party? Hosted by Dell'Arte in our gorgeous outdoor amphitheatre, this is the last hurrah. Parting words, live local music, great food and general merriment for all!
