NET/TEN Shareback: B3W Performance Group - Flamenco Dance & Contemporary Dance

Spring 2016 Travel Grant Recipient

B3W Performance Group (Jackson Heights, NY) traveled to Seville, Spain to begin collaborating with Alba Lucera, a renowned Flamenco dancer, and musicians Tino Van Der Sman and Rafael Montegduo (New York, NY). Together they discovered ways to fuse contemporary dance and flamenco and investigated how their two cultures face issues of oppression.

SHAREBACK:

Emily Berry (contemporary dancer) and Rafael Monteagudo (jazz and Afro-Cuban musician) from New York traveled to Seville, Spain to engage in an exchange of forms and begin a collaboration with Alba Lucera (flamenco dancer) and Tino Van Der Sman (flamenco musician).  We wanted to share through conversation our process, ways of working that enabled us to deepen our understanding of each others' forms as well as our own forms, and philosophical approaches that worked well for us.
