NET/TEN Shareback: Conspire Theatre - 9 Suggestions for Renting and Creating Performance in a City Park

Fall 2015 Travel Grant Recipient

Michelle Dahlenburg of Conspire Theatre (Austin, TX) met twice monthly with Alirio Zavarce (Adelaide, South Australia) via Skype to exchange and discuss their companies' methods of devising and play development. In the spring, Zavarce visited Austin for two weeks to observe and lead workshops with Conspire’s ensemble as they develop their new play.

SHAREBACK:

In response to both the Austin theatre venue crisis and our interest in exploring site-responsive performance, Conspire Theatre and Alirio Zavarce created a performance piece, “You’ve Been Sold a Lie,” in and around a small building in a City of Austin park. Based on our experiences, we offer suggestions for working with city offices and creating performance in a city park.
