Aaron Landsman of Is This You (New York, NY) took a six-day trip to Novi Sad and Belgrade, Serbia to continue work on a new theater project, Language Reversal, about translation, dictatorship, and empathy. The trip included ethnographic interviews with Serbian artists, activists, and journalists, as well as developmental workshops of new theatrical material created in English and Serbian.

Wendy Jehlen of ANIKAYA (Somerville, MA) traveled to Japan to develop a collaboration with Butoh artist and former National Theater of the Deaf actor Dakei (Tokyo, Japan). They collaborated on a new work, Delicateness in Times of Brutality, and worked toward developing a new, movement-based approach to silent theater.

Julia Rhoads, Artistic Director of Lucky Plush Productions (Chicago, IL), traveled to Cuba for the second phase of a creative exchange with Danza Teatro Retazos(Havana) to deepen her practice-based research and approaches to the intersection of movement and dialogue. The research and foundational material developed informed the company’s next feature-length work, Rooming House.
