Spring 2017 Travel Grant Recipient
Soledad Ensemble (New York, NY) visited Barn Arts Collective (Bass Harbor, ME) to continue their early devising process on The Seven Ravens Project, an adaptation of a Brothers Grimm tale woven with stories of contemporary child migrants, immigrants, and refugees. The visit included workshops for the local school district, poetic collaboration with social service organization Mano en Mano, and a culminating work-in-progress performance for the local community.
Soledad Ensemble traveled to Barn Arts Collective in Bass Harbor, ME to develop The Seven Ravens Project and to learn about the Collective's relationship to its broader community. There, the Ensemble engaged in a deep and generative collaborative process and experienced the Collective's rich modes of engagement and audience development in Bass Harbor. Inspired by themes of home, community, belonging and displacement in their artistic collaboration, Soledad Ensemble also experienced a wonderfully multicultural, multinational, and multiethnic collaboration while preparing meals in the Barn Arts kitchen. Here, the company reflects on collaboration, community, and the recipes that make us feel most at home.
