Support NET

Co-Creating a Community. Take a Step with Us.

NET has been instrumental in defining today's ensemble movement.

Until the emergence of NET, ensembles spread across the map had no collective identity. In 1995, eight ensembles gathered for a preliminary planning process. By 1998, the same eight ensembles partnered in a two-year exchange project called the Network of Ensemble Theaters (NET). The project continued to gain momentum.

NET's membership is 350+ strong -- a community of ensemble companies, affiliated organizational allies, individual practitioners, and students spread throughout 40 states who share a commitment to collaborative creation, and a belief in the amplified strength of joining together for collective action and mutual support.

Our work around the country has included:

  • granting over $1 million to our members to support artist-to-artist exchange, peer-based learning, and creative exploration
  • hosting national and regional convenings throughout the country, including:
    • National Summits and Gatherings in San Francisco, CA; Minneapolis, MN; Honolulu, HI; Fayette, ME; Seattle, WA; and Tempe/Tucson, AZ;
    • Intersection Symposium events in Chicago, New York City, and Seattle;
    • MicroFests in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Detroit, Appalachia
      (Knoxville, TN and Harlan County, KY), and New Orleans;
    • and this year's Ensemble MacroFest USA 2020, a rolling, year-long, nationwide event series celebrating ensemble theater and exploring the "state of the art" of ensemble practice and performance in the U.S.

[Originally designed as a live event in 10+ cities, we reimagined EMFUSA2020 due to COVID-19 as a community journey of healing, growth, knowledge sharing, imagination, and transformative action toward co-creating a just and equitable future for our sector -- with ongoing online and distance-based/analog programming throughout 2020-2021.]

  • offering 20+ artist-focused professional development sessions;
  • and continuing to speak out for ensembles and advocate for the field

This is all just one step toward our mission to propel ensemble practice to the forefront of culture and society.

Join our movement.  Be part of this work.

We do it together.
