Performance/Project Request For Proposals NATIONAL

The Network of Ensemble Theaters (NET) hosts MicroFest USA: Honolulu - National Summit and Learning Exchange examining the role of art and artists in developing healthy, vibrant communities. 

NET is seeking proposals for performances, workshops, case studies, field dialogue, etc., that highlight the impact art has on community.

The deadline for submissions is Thursday February 28th, 2013 @ 6pm EST.

Procedures and Deadline

NET is requesting proposals in the following areas:

• Performances relevant to the selected themes (10-50 minutes in length)
• Art-making, workshops and master classes from artistic/cultural traditions (1- 2 hours)
• Case studies of how art has impacted your community or organizing work (1-2 hours)
• Think Tank Conversations (1-2 hours)
         – What is a conversation about issues of place-based art-making that you want the field to have?

NET is seeking projects where art is addressing the following issues:

• Immigration and Migration
• Criminal Justice System and Incarceration
• Education Policies and Systems
• Environmental Issues
• Local and Indigenous Cultural Traditions
• Cultural Organizing and Policy Advocacy using the Arts
• Community Development and Gentrification
• Homelessness
• Food Security/Food Justice
• Land Use and Development (e.g. community gardens, mural projects, site-specific performances, arts-centered urban planning, etc)

Please Note: Proposals will be selected based on relevancy to the identified topics.

Who can submit a proposal?

Anyone working in the identified topics (this can include: ensembles, artists, organizations, educators, community centers, organizers, urban planners, etc.) is welcome to submit a proposal to share your work.   

Presented performances (theater, dance, music, spoken word, etc) may be already in production or completed and presented within the last 5 years. These performances must be adaptable to the venue and technically simple. Performances can be 10-50 minutes.

NET provides you with:

• Free registration (includes housing and most meals) and some travel support to the MicroFest event
• NET will provide comps to industry professionals and press directly 
• A limited amount of time to rehearse and tech in the performance venue
• Festival promotional material, press releases, posters, advertising and brochures
• An opportunity for dialogue about the content and form of the work with your peers in the field
• Any written documentation post the festival that includes references to your work
