About Shooting Columbus Ensemble

Denise Uyehara is a performance artist, director and writer whose work explores individual and collective memory, and what marks the body crossing borders of identity.  She leads ensemble and solo endeavors that engage the audience around issues of gender, nation, civil liberties and childhood games.  She is recipient of numerous awards including NET/TEN Travel and Exchange Grants with the Shooting Columbus/Indigenous Cycles collective, the MAP Fund, support from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, the Arizona Commission on the Arts, and the Asian Cultural Council.

She is currently collaborating with James Luna (Luiseño) on Atmospheric Rituals.  Uyehara is a frequent university lecturer.
