Mujeres en Ritual

About Mujeres en Ritual Danza Teatro

Mujeres en Ritual Danza-Teatro is a transnational ensemble of women from México and the U.S., founded in 1999 to investigate techniques of the body and the experiences of women at the border. Based in Tijuana and Tampa, the company has received numerous commissions and invitations to international festivals in México, the U.S., Canada, Nicaragua and Poland. We have created over 10 full-length works, including: Mujeres en Ritual; El Sueño de Sor Juana; Perfecto Luna by Elena Garro; Rios de Ofelia; Fronteras Desviadas/Deviant Borders; Aqui deberia estar tu nombre/Here Should Be Your Name by Noe Carrillo; and Outside the Circle with Art2Action. For us, making performance is a collaborative and critical process, to develop interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, syncretic work. Founding Artistic Director, Dora Arreola, has more than 20 years of professional experience as a director, choreographer and performer. She was a participant at Grotowski's Workcenter in Pontedera, Italy, and holds a MFA in Directing from UMass-Amherst. She is now Assistant Professor of Theatre at the University of South Florida, Tampa.
