About Mondo Bizarro

Mondo Bizarro is a New Orleans-based company that has been creating daring, interdisciplinary art and fostering creative partnerships in local, national and international communities for the last thirteen years. Our latest work, CRY YOU ONE, is a 2.5 mile processional performance and online storytelling platform about Louisiana's disappearing wetlands. CRY YOU ONE is currently touring the country and has been shared with audiences in ten rural and urban locations across the United States.

We are an ensemble that creates, presents and produces a wide array of imaginative projects aimed at utilizing art as a tool for understanding what makes us commonly human and individually unique. Our work is intentionally enterprising, ranging from physical theater to large-scale community festivals; from innovative digital storytelling to site-responsive productions. Everything we do is fused with a hunger to develop new works of art that illuminate the beauty and travails of the human condition.

We are living on land in Southeast Louisiana that is disappearing at the rate of one football field every forty-five minutes. For this reason, we make art with urgency because our actions are visibly and directly altering the land we love. We listen deeply. We develop our projects over long gestation periods (12-18 months) and perform them in our home, throughout the country and across the globe.

Our work has been experienced in art centers, universities and outdoor locations in 34 states across the country and occasionally abroad. It has been supported by: Creative Capital, MAP, NEA, NEFA’s National Theater Project, National Performance Network, Rauschenberg Foundation, Alternate ROOTS and the Network of Ensemble Theaters to name a few. To date, we have created eight critically acclaimed works of performance. We have presented over five hundred local, regional and national artists through our annual “State of the Nation Art and Performance Festival” and initiated the nationally renowned place-based digital storytelling projects “I-10 Witness Project” and“I-Witness Central City.”
