NET/TEN Shareback: New York Neo-Futurists - Creating Puppets Out of Found and Recycled Materials

New York Neo-Futurists (New York, NY) partnered with Standard Toy Kraft (Brooklyn, NY) to provide company members with training in puppet making and design. The monthly workshops lead to the creation of pieces for Soft Hydraulics: New Futurists Puppetry, NYNF’s Spring 2013 Development Lab Series.

ABOUT THE PARTNERS

Standard ToyKraft is a theater and workshop that offers low-cost performance and rehearsal space residencies, as well as private studio spaces and table space for the visual arts. Our group workshop has several large shared work tables as well as a wood shop. The theater is called Standard ToyKraft after a toy manufacturing company that was in operation near our space in the 1950s. We are located right off the Graham Ave stop on the L in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Daniel Patrick Fay: is a New York based puppeteer, and artist.  He has performed with Mabou Mines, Basil Twist, Norah Jones, The Lone Wolf Tribe, and The Metropolitan Opera.  He has puppeteered on such illustrious stages such Lincoln Center, St. Ann’s Warehouse, The Public Theater, and Berkeley Rep, as well as on television, and screen. http://danielpatrickfay.com/

Jessica Scott: is a designer and performer based in Brooklyn. She frequently collaborates with artists Basil Twist, Lee Breuer, Mabou Mines and is working on a new collaboration with sculptor Bjarne Melgaard. She has puppeteered on Broadway and television for Peewee Herman, Bjork, Moises Kaufman, Flight of the Conchords and with Pink Martini at Carnegie Hall.

Melanie Patterson:  is a painter, puppeteer and picture book maker. She has studied at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and The Cooper Union. Her work has been shown at numerous locations in New York City. She is a Co-founder of Standard Toy Kraft. 

Will Pike: has a BFA in the area of Puppetry from the University of Connecticut. He has worked in television, film and on stage building sets, props and puppets, and performing alike. He is proud to have worked on a number of Broadway shows, and many independent films.
