NET/TEN Shareback: The Object Group, 7 Stages, & Klimchak: Intersections of Music and Theatre in Collaboration

2016-17 Exchange Grant Recipients

The Object Group (Decatur, GA) and 7 Stages (Atlanta, GA) collaborated to produce a multi-disciplinary opera adapted from Euripides' The Bacchae. Members of the ensemble partnered with composer and multi-instrumentalist performer Klimchak (Atlanta, GA) to complete a devised realization of the production featuring physical theatre, puppetry, mask work, dance, and an immersive sonic environment.

During a 12-month period, The Object Group worked in concert with composer/multi-instrumentalist Klimchak to create a new work, The Followers. The ensemble combined object-based devising techniques with Klimchak's exploration of sound in everyday objects and structures to discover, adapt, and create the movement, materials, story and structure of the production. What follows are exercises that the Group used during the creation process.
