FEDERAL ART AGENCIES

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is an independent federal agency that funds, promotes, and strengthens the creative capacity of our communities by providing all Americans with diverse opportunities for arts participation.

REGIONAL ARTS ORGANIZATIONS

There are six U.S. Regional Arts Organizations (RAOs). They are similar to each other in that they partner with the NEA and their constituent State Arts Agencies on planning and program delivery. While they collaborate closely with these governmental agencies, RAOs are nonprofit organizations. Beyond these core structures, relationships and functions, they differ from each other in significant ways.
