NET'S RESPONSE TO COVID-19

To our ensemble community:

Over the last few weeks, NET has heard countless stories from our members of show cancellations, project interruptions, and financial uncertainty. The spread of COVID-19 and the need for physical distancing has made our collective work -- of bringing together communities through ensemble performance and practice -- extremely difficult. In this unsettling time, our social connections and the interwoven support and camaraderie provided by networks such as NET become even more critical.

On Saturday, March 14th, we hosted an online Virtual Town Hall from Albuquerque, New Mexico with NET member Tricklock Company (whose 20th Revolutions International Theatre Festival, along with NET's EMFUSA2020 event there, was cancelled). We heard from members and practitioners across the country and around the world about what’s impacting our field most in this moment, and the conversations and responses NET should prioritize. (Click here for the archived recording.) We look forward to supporting more dialogue like this in the weeks and months ahead; be on the lookout for announcements of these online gatherings!

We are heartened and inspired by the innovative ways you’re pivoting and finding new opportunities for remote connection and creative exploration in this challenging moment. Like you, NET has been looking carefully at our current and upcoming planned activities, and adjusting our priorities and approaches to respond to the evolving situation and our community’s needs. Please see the sections below for important info about updates and changes to our programs, events, resource offerings, and grantmaking for the field (including a new NET/TEN grant application with a rolling deadline, opening on Wednesday March 25).

As reports rise of racism and xenophobia connected to COVID-19, we take this moment to explicitly reiterate NET’s core values of respect and inclusion, and our commitment to equity and justice that is rooted in a holistic vision of cultural pluralism. We denounce these acts of discrimination, and stand in solidarity with Chinese and Asian Americans as well as individuals with compromised immune systems and chronic illnesses, our elders, and all other vulnerable populations.

As ensemble companies, artists, and practitioners, we can all testify to the potential of collaboration, the promise of the collective, and the power of coming together in community. NET is here for you, working to amplify your activities, and to listen, respond to, and advocate for your urgent and evolving needs. As we continue to share resources and learn together, we encourage you to be in touch with your questions, concerns, and requests...to share how you’re doing, or how NET can best support you and the ensemble field. Our hearts and minds are with you in this complicated time.

Be well, stay strong, and take great care,
The NET Team
